Amb. Philippe J. Lhuillier Attends San Marino Investiture of Captains Regent
San Marino, 1 October 2008 - H.E. Philippe J. Lhuillier, Philippine Ambassador to Italy, Albania and San Marino attended the Investiture of the Captains Regent of the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, H.E. Ernesto Benedettini II and H.E. Assunta Meloni I from 30 September to 1 October 2008 in San Marino.
During this occasion, Ambassador Lhuillier met with Hon. Fiorenzo Stolfi, Secretary of State for Foreign and Political Affairs of San Marino, to explore the different areas of cooperation in the fields of culture, trade and labor, and exchange views on matters of mutual concern. Ambassador Lhuillier invited Secretary Stolfi to pay an official visit to the Philippines.
Bilateral relations have significantly strenthened between the two countries since Ambassador Lhuillier presented his credentials as non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to San Marino in September 2003. This led to the eventual establishment of the Honorary Consulate of San Marino in the Philippines in November 2007.
The Grand and General Council of the Republic of San Marino elects two Captains Regent as heads of state for a 6-month term and the investiture of the Captains Regent takes place on 1 April and 1 October annually.
